Over by Jorn Threlfall
Over is based on the true story of an Angolan immigrant who stowed away aboard a British Airways flight to London inside the wheel well, he then fell to his death near Twickenham because the high altitude led to him losing consciousness and falling. This short film uses a reverse chronological structure, and i like this unusual method because it creates tension and suits the style of a film in building to a climax, a climax in which the stow away suddenly falls on a car. As the story rewinds, we are shown a series of integrated still shots of the stow away's possessions and in my opinion these shots are well needed to give the audience more information, furthering tension, whilst also providing a break from the somewhat boring long takes littered throughout Over. I think that it is these long takes that ruin Over for me, this is because i feel that too many shots lingered past the point of which i could bare and at some points i was tempted to skip ahead or watch it on double speed. Overall i think the story and structure of Over are thoroughly interesting, but the constant over long takes ruin the suspenseful elements in my opinion.
