The Arrival by Daniel Montanarini

Inspired by a photograph taken by Alexander Nestrerov, Daniel Montanarini's The Arrival is a simple but enjoyable story of a young woman wrestling with her conscience over whether she will keep her baby or not. The baby being a product of a fling with a man unknown to the audience, the narrative of the short film takes place in a coffee shop prior to her meeting with the father of the baby, 'Anna' played by Emily Barber having arrived a little early passes the time by delivering an inner monologue. there is only one shot in this short film, Anna is framed in the center of it and throughout it's short 4 minute run time the shot edges closer. in my opinion, the simplicity of how The Arrival is shot benefits it due to the fact that it allows Emily Barber's charm shine through whilst she toils with herself. Her ideas chop and change and there is a subtle injection of humor as she awkwardly shuffles in her seat. Overall I think The Arrival uses its simplicity to its advantage due to the performance of Emily Barber and the fact that the story its self is a realistic down to earth one.
